Director of the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ)
Huntingdon County Business and Industry, Inc. (HCBI) is looking for a motivated self-starter to fill an anticipated opening within our organization. The position is Director of the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ). The KIZ is a Commonwealth of PA economic development initiative founded to identify and foster the development of new or emerging commercially viable technology. Target industries include information technology and the life sciences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position is responsible for the following: Serve as main point of contact and support for start-up and growth companies locating in the KIZ; Assist companies with developing business growth plans focusing on job retention and job creation; Coordinate company-specific support related to product development, product marketing, intellectual property protection and raising of capital; Coordinate income-generating activities that provide KIZ resources and administer financial record-keeping of KIZ expenditures; Develop and implement programming to achieve deliverables of advancing job creation/retention and investment; Administer community micro-grant fund and student seed capital fund as relating to KIZ; Coordinate educational workshop series; Prepare/submit reports to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED); Collaborate with local, regional and state economic development partners; Serve as liaison to DCED Office of Technology; Network with other KIZ programs across the state; Coordinate the KIZ Partnership; Support the PA Business Retention and Expansion Program (BREP); Perform other duties as assigned. Some travel is required.
SUPERVISION REQUIRED/GIVEN:
Works independently under general guidelines and direction of and reports to the Executive Director of the Juniata College Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (JCEL). Works collaboratively with professional staff and diverse individuals, and provides direct supervision to support staff, student interns/assistants and volunteers.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, an advanced degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two (2) years experience in one or more of the following areas: information technology and/or life sciences; coordination of educational programs in the business and/or education communities; technology transfer; conventional, angel investor and/or venture financing. Personal competencies necessary to be successful in this position: Comfort in working with community organizations, as well as the higher education environment; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Experience / belief in a strong customer service approach; Knowledge and understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks.
GRANT FUNDED: This is a grant-funded position.

Economic Development and Marketing Interns
HCBI provides internship opportunities for students at four year undergraduate institutions. Interns participate in a team approach to economic development, while also completing independent projects.
Internships are available during the academic year (unpaid) and summer (paid and unpaid).
