History
HCBI has a rich history that traces back to 1912 with the formation of the Huntingdon Chamber of
Commerce. In 1959, business visionaries from the Chamber formed The Long Siding Development Plan to
take advantage of a growing business trend featured in The Wall Street Journal, the creation of
industrial parks to attract manufacturing firms to the community – this group later became
Huntingdon Business and Industry (HBI).
Organizations similar to HBI were also finding success throughout the county – the Petersburg Area Development Corporation, the Mount Union Area Development and the Area Development Corporation of Southern Huntingdon County.
To strengthen and consolidate the county’s economic development momentum, these organizations came together in 1983 to form HCBI. Over the following two decades, HCBI celebrated many successes of business attraction and growth, while investing in the creation of Riverview Business Center.
In 2003, HCBI made a strategic decision to partner with Juniata College in economic development initiatives. Working in conjunction with the Juniata College Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (JCEL) in the Sill Business Incubator, HCBI celebrates its increasing level of professional services available for the business community.
Today, HCBI is a strategic partner and a vital resource to the Huntingdon County business community. HCBI provides access to low-interest financing programs, support through one of the state's Keystone Innovation Zones (KIZs) and "shovel-ready" KOZ property.
